History

The D.C. Gay Basketball League, formally known as the WDCGBL, was founded and initiated by the DC Sentinels and is the area’s first official gay basketball league. The DCGBL, located in Washington, D.C. was founded in 2012, and has become an official association in 2019. The league is dedicated to providing the LGBTQ community with a safe and quality environment to play competitive and intramural levels of basketball.

The league has operated for 6 seasons, and counting, as we continue to bring in new players and grow our numbers every year. We strive to maintain an athletic environment free of discrimination for all members and friends of the LGBTQ community. The league promotes positive values in our community and seeks to provide a safe space for competitive and recreational basketball competition.

The DCGBL works in partnership with Team DC, and we often host open gyms in the greater D.C. metropolitan area to bring together local LGBTQ and ally basketball players. We are excited to continue to welcome players from around the metro area to play in the inaugural season and look forward to you joining us.
